Carolyn Wonderland is a well known and celebrated artist in Austin, Texas. She moved from her hometown Houston to Austin 13 years ago, and has built a gradually bigger and bigger reputation. Saturday March 10th she played at Antone’s, Austin’s famous blues venue, and it was a great pleasure to see her and her trio on stage once again.
With her latest releace, Peace Meal, she has also been noticed elsewhere in the US. In Europe the Netherlands have a chance to see her in Amsterdam every November at the Wonderjam, and more and more festivals are booking her. She has played in Switzerland, Belgium and Norway among other European countries.
Austin Music Awards is a yearly event during the SXSW festival. Carolyn Wonderland has won the category of best female vocalist twice, and also best blues band. She has also been a runner up on the best guitarist category, blues band and female singer many times.. Besides singing and playing the guitar, she is also a trumpetist.
Carolyn Wonderland has released 4 CDs, the last two produced by Ray Benson and released by Asleep At The Wheel’s label Bismaux Productions. Her latest CD, Peace Meal was recorded at Levon Helm’s studio and with Larry Campbell and Mike Nesmith as additional producers of some of the songs.
If you have a chance to see Carolyn Wonderland on stage, do it! She is dynamite on guitar, has a big voice and lots of humour. Her two fellow musicians, long time companion Cole El Saleh on keyboard and key-bass and Rob Hooper on drums present a tight foundation for her guitar and singing.
