Amy Winehouse Would Have Been 30 Today

Amy Winehouse © Per Ole HagenAmy Winehouse is one of the most talented and also one of the most successful British artists in the first decade after 2000. She was nominated for six Grammys for her second CD, Back in Black, and won five. When she died in 2011, the same album was the best-selling album in the UK after 2000. September 14th it is 30 years since she was born.

It is always tragic when young people die, whatever the reason. But we put extra notice to the death of an artist with such potential as Amy Winehouse. She had shown us what she was worth on her CDs, but also live. Her performances leaned heavily on the 60’s black soul divas, but with a kind of detached attitude. I saw her only once, at La Zona Rosa in Austin during SXSW 2007, she cancelled most of the other concerts that year.
