Jane’s Addiction have been on a tour for some time now, celebrating 25 years since they released the ground breaking CD Nothing’s Shocking. The tour started in May, and they have played several venues in the USA, O2 in London before they played the Parken festival in Bodø, Norway and last night they played in Oslo.
I saw the first three songs at Sentrum Scene in oslo, since those were the ones we were allowed to photograph. They were the first three tracks on Nothing’s Shocking, Up The Beach, Ocean Size and Had a Dad. After this they played the rest of the album, with their signature song, Mountain Song. They also played three songs from the follow-up album, Ritual The Habitual, and one each from the following album, Strays and The Great Escape Artist. Here you can see the setlist for the concert.
Jane’s Addiction are considered the first and leading alternative rock band, a style the shared with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, Porno for Pyros and several others. Jane’s Addiction was the first of these to get both cult and mainstream success, paving the way for the rest.
They have also had close relations with bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers. Guitarist Dave Navarro played in RHCP for a while, while Flea played bass in Jane’s Addiction in 1997. Duff McKagan, originally from Guns ‘n’ Roses also played with them for a couple of years at their reunion in 2008.
