Slipknot is one of the most successful metal bands, and have been so for the last fifteen years since they released their first, self-titled CD in 1999. I had never seen them before when they played at Oslo Spektrum tonight.
There have been a lot of controversy around Slipknot during the almost twenty years they have existed. They have also had periods when they haven’t been together, but have come back with a vengeance every time. All their albums have sold well, while their fourth, All Hope Is Gone from 2008, scored a number one on the Billboard charts.
Live, Slipknot present a very special stage show. Their two percussionists are placed on rotating risers on each side of the stage, while the two guitarists Mick Thomson and Jim Root are front stage, with singer Corey Taylor center front. They use lights and colors effectively, creating a different setting than most other metal bands.
Corey Taylor is the absolute center of attention in the band. I must admit that since I don’t know much of the band’s songs, it is difficult to talk about each song. But I really liked what I heard – hard, effective, dark, but also melodic songs that made me want to check out their albums.
