The first time I saw Katzenjammer, was at their debut concert at byLarm in 2007 or something. I have seen them several times since then, but it has been three years since the last time. Last Night they celebrated their 10 year anniversary since they started playing together at Oslo Spektrum with fans from Norway, Germany, UK and Holland in the audience. Katzenjammer started out with a credo of playing as many instruments as possible, and preferrably instruments they hadn’t played before. In the beginning of their career, it was fairly obvious that they hadn’t played all the instruments much, but gradually they became better and better.
Besides playing and alternating between the many instruments, they write good songs, and they have also perfected their harmony singing. From being fun to see and hear in the beginning, Katzenjammer have matured into a professional band with a show consisting of songs from their three albums, the latest, Rockland, from this year.
The band has worked hard with tours in Norway and in Europe. This has resulted in a solid fan base in Germany, BeNeLux and also in the UK. They also played SXSW in 2009, and did a memorable stunt at Leeann Atherton’s Barn Dance the same year. I am still asked about when they are coming back when I am in Austin.
Here are pictures of the girls in the band, Marianne Sveen, Solveig Heilo, Turid Jørgensen and Anne Marit Bergheim from the concert last night. Check out their albums, and also their tour schedule to make sure you can see them live They are definitely worth it.
