Satyricon have been on tour in Europe and South America for the last two months, and at last they are back in Norway with eight gigs in different cities. Yesterday they played at Sentrum Scene in Oslo, and late January they start on a new two month tour in Europe. The tour is coordinated with the release of their latest album, Deep calleth upon Deep.
Satyr
I have always loved shooting Satyricon live, since the first time I saw the at Roskilde in 2002. Their version of black metal, which leans toward hard rock with their hard and catchy riffs makes them one of my favorite bands. They are also always great visually, with Satyr (Sigurd Wongraven) in front and Frost (Kjetil-Vidar Haraldstad) behind the drums.
Neddo
On Deep calleth upon Deep they have moved more towards hard rock, and they played four of the songs from the album at the concert, Midnight Serpent, Deep Calleth Upon Deep, To Your Brethren in the Dark and Dissonance. The rest of the concert was divided between the self-titled album Satyricon, The Age of Nero, Volcano, Now, Diabolical and Nemesis Divina.
Attila Vörös
Azarak
This year Satyricon have got a new live guitarist, Attila Vörös. I heard him the first time at Tons of Rock in June, and he fit in perfectly already then. Now he is part of the organical unit that is Satyricon live, with Satyr on vocals, Frost on drums, Anders Neddo Odden on bass, Anders Hunstad on keyboard and Steinar Azarak Gundersen on guitar. I know few other bands that are as tight live as Satyricon.
Sentrum Scene can take around 1800 people, and it was filled to capacity at the concert. The crowd was on fire from the first song, Midnight serpent from Deep calleth upon Deep. On Now, Diabolical the crowd was shouting along with Satyr. That is one of my favorite Satyricon song, dark, hard, but at the same time hypnotically catchy.
In late March Satyricon are headliners at the Inferno Festival together with Emperor and Dark Funeral. That will also be a great event, and if you haven’t bought your tickets to the festival, you should hurry up before they are sold out. And fans in Tromsø, Bergen, Stavanger, Kristiansand and Hamar, make sure to see them when they come the next days.
Here are the songs at the concert at Sentrum Scene: Midnight Serpent, Our World, It Rumbles Tonight, Black Crow on a Tombstone, Deep Calleth Upon Deep, Walker Upon the Wind, Repined Bastard Nation, Commando, Now, Diabolical, To Your Brethren in the Dark, Dissonant, Transcendental Requiem Of Slaves, Mother North, The Pentagram Burns, To the Mountains, Fuel for Hatred, K.I.N.G.
