Norway does not have a specially impressive track record when it comes to music artists with international recognition. Except for male metal bands like Dimmu Borgir, Satyricon, Enslaved, pop acts like a-ha and Røyksopp and the newer DJs Kygo and Alan Walker, there are few male artists or bands that have made waves internationally. But in the last years a handful of female artists have started to get recognition also outside of Norway. Here are short presentations and photos of 13 of these. (Photo above: Ida Jenshus)

Bergen Fest 2018 – Sigrid, James Bay, Sondre Justad, Astrid S, Fieh and more
Saturday was the last day of Bergen Fest this year, and as the tradition is, the day started early, kicking off twelve hours of live music from four stages. Nineteen acts all together. This day was also a predominantly Norwegian day, with some of our best newer artists like Sigrid, Sondre Justad, Astrid S, Fieh, Halie and Sløtface, together with veterans like Real Ones. And with nice weather, mostly sunny, a packed venue and James Bay as the closing act, this was a perfect ending to another successful festival. (Photo above: James Bay)
Stavernfestivalen 2016 – Saturday with Ellie Goulding, Sivert Høyem, Morten Abel, Astrid S and more
The last day of Stavernfestivalen 2016 was sunny and warm, like Friday. And like the other days, the first act was a well known artist, to draw the crowd to the venue early. Around 10.000 people in all ages came this day, bringing the total to over 30.000 for the three days. That’s an impressive number, and the good thing for the festival is that the venue can take more if they want to next year. (Photo above: Ellie Goulding)
