The last time I saw Queens Of The Stone Age, or QOTSA for short, was at the Norwegian Wood festival in Oslo in 2008. That time Josh Homme was sick with food poisoning, but they still delivered a very good concert. Yesterday QOTSA headlined the opening day at the Øya festival in Oslo, and the band showed that they are still the kings of stoner rock.
Josh Homme is 40 years old today, May 17th. He is one of the leading musical artists on the newer hard rock and stoner rock scene, with present and former membership in bands like Kyuss, Eagles Of Death Metal, Queens Of The Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures. Here are some pictures of Josh Homme from different live concerts.
The Norwegian record company Duplex is responsible for many bands in different styles. One of the central persons in Duplex and many of the bands, is Egil Hegerberg. He has his own band, Bare Egil Band (“Only Egil Band”), he is a member of the “kitchen appliances band” Hurra Torpedo, and he plays in Black Debbath. In January they will release their sixth CD.
One of Norway’s hardest working bands are El Caco. They are a trio, playing dark and heavy music somewhere between stoner rock straight rock and heavy rock. In January they released their 6th CD, Hatred, Love and Diagrams, and they have toured this album extensively this year. Yesterday night they played at Rockefeller in Oslo.
