Jackson Browne is probably more famous through his songs sung by others than for his own artistic achievements. He is also known for his activism against political injustice, and against nuclear weapons, co-founding Musicians United for Safe Energy. Today, October 9th, he is 65 years old.
Josh Homme is 40 years old today, May 17th. I have seen Van Morrison on several occasions, and loved all his performances. My best experience with Van Morrison, is the concert he did at the Norwegian Wood festival in Oslo in June 2000. Both because Van the Man was telling jokes on stage, and making fun of his musicians. But also because of the dove. Today is his 67th birthdfay, but I sincerely hope he has no plans of retiring.
Jeff Tweedy, the singer and front man of Wilco, is 45 years old today. For almost 30 years he has been one of the most important men in the Alternative Country movement, with a background form Uncle Tupelo and Wilco.
Last year during the Norwegian Wood was the debut of the Tom Petty tribute band Pretty Young Pettys. I saw them then, and liked what I heard, even if it wasn’t the real thing. But the musicians were really good, and they had a contagious enthusiasm that showed during their performance. This year they also played during the festival, at the Oslo club Herr Nilsen after Bryan Ferry’s concert at the festival.
