Lars Winnerbäck, Sweden’s new rock poet
Sweden have a great tradition of artists who are both poets and composers, plus great live artists. Ulf Lundell, Stefan Sundström, the late Cornelis Vreswijk, and these days Lars Winnerbäck. This Sunday he played at the Norwegian Wood festival in Oslo to a sold out venue.
Soulful James Morrison
James Morrison is a 27 year old soul man from Rugby in England. His debut was with the album Undiscovered in 2006. From then he has been on a succesful path upwards. Today he played at the closing day of the Norwegian Wood festival in Oslo.
Laleh charmed Norwegian Wood
Laleh is a Swedish Iranian artist who started her carreer in the Swedish movie Jalla! Jalla! when she was 18. Tonight she played at the Norwegian Wood festival and won the crowd over with her sweet, easy flowing music with lyrics in Swedish and English.
Tom Petty Won’t Back Down
The Norwegian Wood festival in Oslo has a pretty impressive line-up this year – as usual. The first night Bryan Ferry was the headliner with a 12 man band, and yesterday night Lenny Kravitz played before the greates of them all, Tom Pretty & The Heartbreakers. Since Kravitz presented an unacceptable photo contract, I took no pictures of him. But Tom Petty had no contract, and did a great show for a sold out festival.
Norwegian Wood is coming up
Tomorrow the festival Norwegian Wood in Oslo starts, going on for four days. The headliners are Bryan Ferry, Tom Pety, Kaizers Orchestra and Sting. Other artists are Lenny Krawitz, Laleh, Lars Winnerbäck, James Morrison and The Gaslight Anthem. I will post pictures from the festival during the next days. But here are pictures from some of the acts from last year. The picture on top here is of Patti Smith.
Stein Torleif Bjella, Norway’s Everyday Poet
One of the most interesting artists in Norway in later years, is Stein Torleif Bjella. He has played for a long time with the band Tolv Volt, and has his solo carreer on the side. Although his solo efforts are definitely the most succesful these days. He was awarded a Norwegian Grammy for his second solo CD, Vonde Visu, and was nominated for his first, Heidersmenn.
Jarle Bernhoft rules the stage
Sometimes a concert stands out as more than just a performance. Some artists have a stage presence that makes their concers something you remember a long time. Jarle Bernhoft is one of those artists, and last night’s performance at the Working Class Hero festival in Drammen was definitely a concert to remember.
Kaizers Orchestra on tour
Kaizers Orchestra are one of Norway’s best live bands, and they have played extensively since they started more than 10 years ago. Harmonium, double bass and oil barrels are some of their instruments. Both on CD and also live they are definitely worth listening to. Yesterday night they played the Working Class Hero festival in Drammen.
Susanne Sundfoer at the WCH festival
The Working Class Hero festival in Drammen has established itself as a quality festival, even if it isn’t the biggest one in Norway. Each year they have some really great artists on the program. This year Susanne Sundfoer is one of them, and she opened the Friday night at the main stage. Here are some pictures from the concert.
