Steinkjerfestivalen was arranged this weekend for the seventh time with Behemoth, Kaizers Orchestra, Susanne Sundfør and D.D.E. as headliners. Three stages, great bands, music non stop for 8 hours each day, a smooth organization, and a great atmosphere made his year’s festival just as pleasurable as last year’s.

A dark session with Behemoth

They followed the popular Norwegian band D.D.E. on stage, and you should think that was a bad choice.- But Behemoth showed why they are considered one of the world’s leading metal bands, and played a dark and extreme set.

Next weekend Steinkjerfestivalen (The Steinkjer Festival) is arranged in the mid-Norway city of Steinkjer. This year they have Behemoth, Kaizers Orchestra, Susanne Sundfør and D.D.E. as some of the headliners, plus some really interestiong other bands like El Doom and The Born Electric, The South, Hedvig Mollestad Trio and Mongo Ninja.

Pretty Young Pettys at Herr Nilsen

Last year during the Norwegian Wood was the debut of the Tom Petty tribute band Pretty Young Pettys. I saw them then, and liked what I heard, even if it wasn’t the real thing. But the musicians were really good, and they had a contagious enthusiasm that showed during their performance. This year they also played during the festival, at the Oslo club Herr Nilsen after Bryan Ferry’s concert at the festival.

Tom Petty Won’t Back Down

Tom Petty © Per Ole HagenThe Norwegian Wood festival in Oslo has a pretty impressive line-up this year – as usual. The first night Bryan Ferry was the headliner with a 12 man band, and yesterday night Lenny Kravitz played before the greates of them all, Tom Pretty & The Heartbreakers. Since Kravitz presented an unacceptable photo contract, I took no pictures of him. But Tom Petty had no contract, and did a great show for a sold out festival.

Norwegian Wood is coming up

Other artists are Lenny Krawitz, Laleh, Lars Winnerbäck, James Morrison and The Gaslight Anthem. I will post pictures from the festival during the next days.
